Press Release for Immediate Publication

London - 18 June 2016

The Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB) extends its deepest condolences for the loss of Jo Cox MP, and calls for tackling the causes of racism-related crime.

PFB is profoundly saddened by the heinous act which resulted in the death of Jo Cox, member of the Labour Party and member of the Labour Party Friends of Palestine and the Middle East.

Jo was known for her unwavering support for countless just causes, and for championing the values of freedom and human rights. She was also known for her promotion of coexistence and tolerance and for her absolute rejection of racism and hate of all forms.

On behalf of the Palestinian community across the UK, PFB extends its heartfelt condolences to Jo’s family, friends and to her constituents. The tragic loss of Jo will surely be felt by the whole country.

The death of Jo is also a loss for the Palestinian people for whose rights she campaigned. She continuously expressed solidarity with them and their daily suffering under the Israeli occupation.

PFB considers her killing an act of "political terror" that should be confronted and tackled, with all those linked to it either directly or indirectly, are held accountable. The statement of the terrorist before the court today, where he chanted "Death to traitors, Freedom for Britain" is an indication of this terrorism, racism and hate.

PFB joins the British people in expecting nothing less than justice for Jo and her family and for the severest of punishment to be handed down to her killer. Such acts of terror will never be tolerated. It is astounding that some media outlets have appeared to show leniency towards the killer, possibly even imply justification for the crime, by emphasising his state of mind. This is nothing short of reprehensible.
